Two shades of the same site

The site has a light theme now. A small sun and moon in the header, and clicking it flips the page.

I did not build it. I asked for it.

One question: what would it take to add a light version next to the dark one already here? Then I stepped back, and did other things while this work happened without me: reading every color this site uses, checking each one against a light background instead of a dark one, and coming back a while later with a page I could click through myself.

Here is what actually got checked in that time. Every accent color on this site (blue for FormaDM, orange for C3D, purple for ReCap) tested against a real number instead of eyeballed: 4.5 to 1 contrast for anything used as text, 3 to 1 for anything that is only ever a border or a fill. The hero glow, which brightens against a dark background to stand out, gets a faint tint instead on a light one, because the same trick washes out in reverse. The hover color on the site's own name flips from white to near black.

I only asked for two more things after that first effort. A way to tell a visitor the toggle exists, and I went with the simplest option offered, a tooltip. And a fix, because the button said "Switch to light theme" even while the light theme was already on.

None of that was interesting to watch happen. It was interesting to ask for, and then go test.
